This week we play against the ladder leading and undefeated Mustangs. With a few of the boys up on the gold coast for the weekend, we were expecting to have a very different team but they got back in time and were keen to play. The first half was very competitive; they only had 4 players so that gave us a big edge. Big Scull was feeling a bit ordinary with the flu, went off early for a break but wanted to come back on to help out the team. Coyfish got involved in a few plays during the half and ended with 5 points, everyone else in the team got a single basket, keeping the scores close at 16 - 14 in Ashwood’s favour. The second half we dominated, creating a heap of run and slowing down there main shooter. Jordy and Kinga hit a few shots and we got out to a pretty big lead before letting the Mustang have a few late ones. The final score, a 7 point win, 37 - 30. Big Scully exceeded on defence, playing a pivotal part in helping us get the win. Jordy kept driving, taking advantage of his height and aggression to draw fouls. Kinga got a few second chance shots, pulling down a few offensive rebounds. Coyfish dominated early and kept up his intensity for the game, Damo played strong down low on the defence and was happy to get a few shots in this game. Junior Scully was driving, attacking and setting up shots like he does week to week. We are now on top of the ladder by percentage, a great start to the season.
